As many residents in Great Barr are aware, the Post Office at the Scott Arms had been due to close at the end of May 2020. Fortunately, after former Newton Councillor, Mark Smith highlighted the threat of its closure, several people contacted the main Post Office site to protest this decision. As a result, the decision was reversed and the post office is still open.
We are pleased that local opinion was listened to, and we hope the agency running the post office will try to make better use of the limited space they have in the premises. It has been the steady reduction in services and facilities in the post office that lead to them considering the closure in the first place. However, it performs a vital role for the Great Barr area, and it would be good to see them make better use of it to ensure its survival in the long term.
