Sandwell Liberal Democrats are calling to extend free school meals so that no child living in poverty misses out - even during holidays and periods of lockdown. In Sandwell, 12,198 children are at risk of going hungry, over 7,000 of whom are in nursery or primary school.
After a high-profile campaign led by footballer Marcus Rashford, the Government provided food vouchers for the poorest families through the summer holidays. However, they have still not addressed the underlying issue of child poverty, or even found a fair and reliable way to provide school meals to those that need them.
Now we want the Government to go further and permanently extend eligibility for free school meals so no child living in poverty misses out, and guarantee vouchers for all future school holidays and periods of lockdown.
Sign our petition to ensure those families get the help they need, not just as a one-off but as part of a long term plan to end child hunger.
We will include your name and address when submitting the petition to the UK Government.
