Jenny Wilkinson, our Liberal Democrat candidate for West Midlands Mayor, was born and bred in the West Midlands and is raising her own family here. She is actively involved in her local community, as a school Governor, Trustee of a charity, which runs events to support Jenny’s local library, and on the committee of the local “Friends of the park” group. You can read more about Jenny on her official website.
Jenny says, “People have told me that they want something different and that I represent positive change. I hear you loud and clear – we cannot go on as we are. I have three core strands running through my commitments as Mayor:
- People and community - When I talk to voters, I often hear you say that politicians are not listening to you. People must have voice and influence over decisions that affect their lives. As Mayor, I will listen to people’s lived experiences and takes account of knowledge, skills and expertise to make decisions.
- Tackling poverty and inequality – Too many people in the West Midlands suffer from poverty, loneliness and inequality. A key priority is to tackle this through a programme to build genuinely affordable homes, trial Universal Basic Income payments and support people in developing the skills needed to secure work.
- A green heart of England - A healthy natural environment, where people breathe clean air, drink clean water and enjoy the beauty of the natural world, lies at the heart of the society and the economy that the Liberal Democrats want to create. My priority as Mayor is to protect the natural environment and reverse biodiversity loss at the same time as combating climate change.”
