We join the nation in mourning the passing of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh. Our first thoughts are with his beloved wife, our Queen, and other members of the Royal Family who will feel the loss most keenly, especially in the months and years ahead. They will certainly be going through a painful grieving process.
Prince Philip is perhaps best remembered for the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, which encourages young people to learn practical skills and to explore the great outdoors. He was also a pioneering conservationist determined to preserve biodiversity and was a former President of the World Wildlife Fund. His Royal Highness was also President of the National Playing Fields Association (now known as Fields in Trust), and sought to retain areas where children could enjoy playing outside.
We feel that a fitting tribute is to honour his memory by continuing this fight to preserve nature and safe open spaces for future generations.
